Illustration Friday: Cake

"Queen of Tarts Eating Hearts" is this week's IF image. It's all paper collage, scanned, with added digital effects in Photoshop, like shadows, light, and small details. Here's my version of the Queen of Hearts nursery rhyme:

The Queen of Tarts
She ate hearts,
Many on a summer's day;
The Knave's heart,
Attracted Queen Tart,
And she ate it clean away.

The King of Hearts
Called for the Tart,
And begged 'til he was sore;
To keep his heart
But the Queen of Tarts,
Vowed she'd still eat more.

Illustration Friday: Sorry

The idea for this image is from the song "What's Left of the Flag" by Flogging Molly. The lyrics, "Wipe that golden tear from your mother dear..." inspired me to jot a rough thumbnail in my sketchbook. Illustration Friday was encouragment enough to review my sketchbook for this week's idea and turn a very old sketch into a finished piece. It's called, "The Golden Tear".

It's meant to be sad, yet optimistic at the same time. The golden tear is the last tear that's shed over a sad situation. After that, it's time to look up, grab a branch, and pull yourself out of that hole.

Illustration Friday: Angels & Devils

This image is all paper collage with small painted details and digital effects for shadow and light. Currently I am illustrating each letter of the alphabet in traditional paper collage and have 8 more letters to go. This Illustration Friday project was a nice distraction! I was originally going to name this "Meeting in the Middle" but after I saw it finished, the book title by Douglas Adams, "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul" came to mind. The name of this image is now, "Tea Time for the Souls."

Illustration Friday: Fat

"It [chocolate] also contains on average 30% total fat" and "may lead to weight gain if eaten in large amounts" says the British Heart Foundation.

This image is part of my Heart Quilt series (a work in progress). This series will be a combination of 12 images representing things that we love and emotions surrounding love. Each image includes a heart symbol and has a decorative border that includes "stitching" to appear more like a quilt block.

Illustration Friday: Under the Sea

I recently discovered Illustration Friday and am participating with this week's topic by including an earlier piece called "Pretty Things Hurting Me." Illustration Friday is a great addition to my list, "Renewing Creative Energy" (see April 20, 2006 post).
